UPDATE
20th June 2024
Preparations are well underway to upgrade our layout for Model Rail Scotland in February 2025. At the moment we are considering increasing the height of some of the backboards and redoing the paintwork of these to include a bit more detailing, also we will be adding to or replacing the grass on the surrounding area of the housing and front embankment. Some of the track areas require smartening up and improving around points, signals etc. and in general some of the ballasting need to be ‘patched up’. We are hoping to add lighting to some of the factories and tenements to add a more realistic look throughout. More detailing is to be added to the station and yard areas, again to increase the realism in what is already a great layout. As well as these we shall be improving the lighting in and around the yard areas and improving the scenery at each end of the tracks where the trains enter and exit from the fiddle yard to give an impression of continuity instead of simply ‘disappearing’ and ‘re-appearing’. Lastly (or maybe not) we intend to add a front control panel to assist us when running the yard area. So, it looks as though we have plenty to do in the next seven months or so to get this fantastic layout even better than it already is, keep watching for further updates until then…
Phoenix Lane - OO Gauge
Phoenix Lane is a continuous run layout, which is 25’ in length and a width of up to about 9’. The layout represents a former North British Railway company passenger station, good yards, and loco shed at a busy junction. It is set in the 1960s, somewhere in Fife, in the era when steam locomotives were mixing with diesel locomotives, DMUs and railbuses. All signals work and it also features working lights and a turntable. It can be operated using DC or DCC. With our move to larger premises the full, exhibition version of the layout will be set up. Work on the layout is planned to continue by adding even more scenic details and operational enhancements.
