Membership Information

Interested in Joining Our Model Railway Club?

Then you will be made most welcome. The Glasgow and West of Scotland Model Railway Club is always on the lookout for new members and if you would like to find out more about the club, its members and the many benefits of joining, this is for you. You’ll want to visit the club and see it for yourself so when you are thinking about doing this for the first time it is best to contact us in advance. We meet Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons and you will be made most welcome. There will be no pressure on you to join and if, after a couple of visits, you decide the club is not for you then you can leave with no obligation to join.

What does the club offer?
Joining us has lots of benefits. No matter what your level of modelling skill, from complete beginner to seasoned, scratch builder there is always a valuable contribution you can make to the club. If you want to learn, then being a member has the advantage that there’s always someone there to talk to about your favourite subject, be it designing your own layout, laying track, wiring your layout, making scenery or any of a number of railway related matters? As well as helping with the construction of our layouts you will be able to help run the trains. At the new clubrooms we will have operational layouts in OO gauge, a small N gauge layout, a new N gauge layout under construction, and eventually more (to be revealed).

How Much Does It Cost to Join?
The cost of membership is now £200 a year following our move to large, easy access, premises in May. This can be paid in one lump sum or in instalments of £50 every three months. The club year runs from 1st January to 31st December and if you join part way through the year your subscription for the first year will be reduced accordingly. This means that the cost of being a member is just less than £4 per week. We accept members under 16 but in those circumstances a parent of the child must also join the club and accompany the child at all times. Junior membership for the year costs marginally more than the regular membership rate as this includes an accompanying adult membership.

So What Next?
Come and visit us. Our premises are a ten minute walk from Drumchapel Station and we will give you exact directions to the club when you get in touch with us. You can visit as a guest for up to three weeks before applying for membership and if you do wish to apply you can fill in an application form available at the club.
